HOFSTRA NORTH SHORE-LIJ SCHOOL of MEDICINE PARTICIPATES IN FIRST ‘MATCH DAY’
MEDIA ADVISORY – FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2015
WHAT: The inaugural class of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, the first allopathic medical school to open in the state of New York in more than 40 years, will learn where they'll spend the next several years of medical training on Friday, March 20 at noon during the institution's first Match Day, a traditional rite of passage for medical students.
Match Day occurs at medical schools across the U.S. on the third Friday of March each year. On Match Day, graduating students open a personalized letter from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) that reveals residency results. In 2014, more than 40,000 students nationwide vied for over 29,000 residency positions at institutions throughout the country, and this year’s Match is expected to be even larger.
During this milestone event at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, there will be opportunities for video and still photography of students opening their Match letters, as well as for interviews with some students and administrators.
