About the Conference

Co-sponsored by the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and The Society of Ultrasound in Medical Education (SUSME), the Third Conference on Ultrasound in Anatomy and Physiology Education is designed for health science educators who are currently integrating ultrasound into their educational programs or have interest in including ultrasound as a part of their curricula.

“The Ultrasound Curriculum in Medical Education:  Session Design, Integration, and Hands-On Experience” conference is aligned with the philosophy of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and will utilize principles of active learning.

Participants will learn more about the use of ultrasound to enhance anatomy and physiology education, specifically working with expert faculty to develop educational strategies tools that can be brought back to their home institutions.

Agenda

Course Structure

The course will take place over two days, primarily in facilitated small group workshops with approximately 10 participants per group.

Groups will be organized based on:

  1. Interest in specific ultrasound application areas identified by the participant.
  2. The background of the participant.

Goals & Objectives

Course Goals

The aim of the course for learners is to:

  1. Improve understanding of the use of ultrasound in anatomy and physiology education.
  2. Develop educational tools integrating anatomy, physiology and ultrasound that can be utilized in a health science curriculum.

Course Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, learners will:

  1. Develop educational strategies and tools related to teaching of ultrasound in anatomy and physiology that can be utilized in a health science curriculum
  2. Discuss strategies for development, implementation and assessment of ultrasound knowledge and skills in a health science curriculum
  3. Perform basic regional ultrasound scans on models and ultrasound simulators
