Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), a centralized medical school application service. One complete set of transcripts must be submitted to AMCAS. AMCAS coordinates the verification and distribution of applications to the medical schools which students are applying. Please do not send official or unofficial transcripts directly to the School of Medicine.
After applying through AMCAS, you will be notified via email of the School's receipt of a verified application. Please verify that your email security settings allow emails from email@example.com.
Application materials for the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine include:
- A complete AMCAS Application, including Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores not older than three years at the time of application and official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended.
- A premedical committee report (packet). If your school does not have a premedical committee or a considerable amount of time has past since graduation, you may submit three individual letters of recommendation: two letters from individual professors (at least one in science) and one letter from a non-academic (included with the AMCAS application). Applicants may submit more than three letters of recommendation, but it is highly recommended that additional letters be submitted through AMCAS.
- A completed Supplemental Application (see information below), which includes a $100.00 fee. If the applicant is eligible for fee assistance through the Association of American Medical Colleges Fee Assistance Program (AAMC FAP), the supplemental application fee will be waived.
AMCAS Application Deadline: The deadline for the for receipt of the AMCAS application is November 1, 2016.
The School of Medicine will review applications only after applicants have submitted the supplemental application and a premedical committee packet (or three letters of recommendation). Applications are reviewed July through January, and interview invites are sent through early January. Status updates will be sent throughout the application season. No status updates will be given over the phone.
Although applicants should have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and composite MCAT score of 25 (2014 exam or earlier) OR a composite MCAT score falling within the 50th percentile or above on the new 2015 MCAT exam, non-traditional applicants with extraordinary undergraduate or post-graduate experience, especially in a scientific and/or clinical setting, may request a supplemental application by completing the following form:
We will not issue a supplemental application until we have received a verified AMCAS application with MCAT scores and three letters of recommendation or committee report. Upon submitting the request, applicants should allow up to two weeks to receive the supplemental application via email. Please note the mean MCAT scores and cumulative undergraduate GPAs of recently admitted classes:

The deadline to submit your supplemental application is December 1, 2016. Extensions will not be granted. It is the responsibility of the applicant to request the supplemental application if it has not been received upon initial request.
I have a new letter of recommendation. How should I send it?
Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine accepts letters of recommendation sent via AMCAS Letter Service, VirtualEvals or Interfolio.

May I submit more than the required amount of letters?
We require a minimum of three individual letters of recommendation or a committee packet. You are welcome to submit additional letters beyond the minimum requirement. We do not have a maximum, but we do not guarantee that all letters beyond the minimum requirement will be read.
How can I send updates to my application?
You may upload any updates to the School of Medicine Portal. Please do not email duplicate updates to the email account. Updates are not required. The upload tool is there for you to use as much as you prefer. Examples of updates include new grades, employment, publications, etc. Your updates will be stored in your application but will not trigger a rereview of your application. Applications are reviewed between July and January, and applicants may be put on "hold" and re-read at a later time.
What is the purpose of the last "Additional Information" essay question on the supplemental application?
This question is open-ended so that applicants can use it in a variety of ways. If there is something you would like us to know or consider that isn't included in your AMCAS application, please use this space for that purpose.
May I make changes to my application once it has been submitted?
Once your supplemental application is submitted, you cannot make changes to the application. You are welcome, however, to upload any updates to the Portal, including an explanation of any mistake.
How can I be sure you received my letters of recommendation?
Letters that are submitted through AMCAS can be tracked in our Portal. After logging in, go to the Status tab. Letters that are emailed directly to us are not listed in the Portal.
How can I print my supplemental application?
Log in to the School of Medicine Portal. Click the link to display your completed application. You can then print your application by using your browser's print function.
Where can I find my status report?
Go to https://apply.medicine.hofstra.edu and log in. Click on the "Status" tab to view your status report. You can print it by using your browser's print function.
How will I know when my application is complete?
You will receive an email indicating that your application is complete and in review. You may also log into the Hofstra Portal and check the Status tab. NOTE: applicants must ensure that all materials have been submitted and that applications are complete. Incomplete applications resolved after posted deadlines will not be reviewed.
When will I know if I am invited for an interview?
Invitations to interview are extended from August through January. They are sent by email, so we urge you to keep your email address up to date with AMCAS.
