John Di Capua, MD
Chair and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology
John Di Capua, MD is an Associate Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. He is also Senior Vice President of Anesthesiology Services for Northwell Health, and Chairman of Anesthesiology at Northwell Health.
As an educator, Dr. Di Capua directs the academic mission of the Department of Anesthesiology which includes two Anesthesiology training programs; the education of numerous non-anesthesiology residents; medical student education; and an active clinical research program. In his clinical roles, he supervises over 400 Anesthesia providers in 15 hospitals covering over 380,000 surgical procedures per year.
Dr. Di Capua trained in anesthesiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital followed by a fellowship in pain management and a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia at the same institution. He was on the Faculty of Harvard Medical School for a year before joining Northwell Health in 1994. Dr. Di Capua is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.
Dr. Di Capua has served in various hospital leadership roles, including Chairman of the Medical Board at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is also CEO for North American Partners in Anesthesia, the leading single specialty anesthesia and perioperative management company in the United States.
Dr. Di Capua’s interests include perioperative operational management and clinical staffing models. He lectures nationally on ways in which anesthesia departments can provide quality and operational value to hospitals.
