Department of Emergency Medicine

The mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine is to be the preeminent provider of quality healthcare in the Northeast, a sponsor of medical and educational excellence, a leader in medical research and a focal point for the community’s healthcare needs. The Emergency Department at Northwell Health in Manhasset is a designated New York State Region Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center equipped and prepared to treat all levels of emergency cases, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Recent renovation to the Manhasset facility has added an advanced diagnostic imaging area and a recently installed PACS system which allows the viewing of digital radiology images. The staff of the Emergency Department at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset care for more than 70,000 patients per year.

The Department is staffed by a team of board-certified Emergency physicians, resident physicians, registered nurses, technicians and support staff , which treats a widely diverse patient population consisting of trauma and high-acuity medical, surgical, pediatric, and gynecological conditions.

In addition to clinical practices, the Emergency Department is committed and dedicated to participation in various research objectives. With the Clinical Research Program leading the way, additional interests are encouraged and conducted under the Basic Science Research Program. The two components are tied together through the Translational Research Program, which aids in the successful transition of basic science research to practical clinical application.
