Catherine Bangeranye, MPH, PhD
Assistant Professor, Science Education
BS Pharmacy, University of Nairobi (Kenya), MPH, CUNY, PhD in Biochemistry, CUNY
Research and Interests: Dr Bangeranye is interested in researching a family of RNA-binding proteins known as the PPR-motif (pentatricopeptide repeat cassette) proteins. Members of this family of proteins are conserved among eukaryotes and those whose function has been characterized are found to play an important role at various stages of mitochondrial RNA metabolism.
Dr Bangeranye is an Assistant Professor and the Co-course Director for Fueling the Body at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. She received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Nairobi (Kenya), a M.Ph. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Graduate center of the City University of New York. She has taught at the City College of New York (CUNY) and at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education (CUNY). In addition to her teaching activities, she has served as a research mentor to a large number of undergraduate and medical students.
