Research and Interests
Neural plasticity, estrogen and cognition, sepsis and cognition.
Dr. Maya Frankfurt's research interests include neural plasticity, sex differences in the adult mammalian central nervous system, and the effects of gonadal steroids on cognition. Prior to joining the faculty of the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, Dr. Frankfurt had 25 years of experience teaching physiology and neuroscience to MD and MD/Ph.D students at McGill University, Rockefeller University, and the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. She has also served as a research mentor to both graduate and undergraduate students.
After attending New York City's Bronx High School of Science, Professor Frankfurt received her undergraduate degree at Hampshire College and her Ph.D. from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She has authored over 60 publications during her career. In addition to her position in the Department of Science Education at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, Dr. Frankfurt maintains several ongoing research collaborations.
