The Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing leading-edge comprehensive surgical care in state-of-the-art facilities across all of its specialties including: Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery, Esophageal Cancer, Geriatric Surgery, Critical Care and Trauma Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The Department of Surgery offers a full spectrum of advanced laparoscopic procedures.

The department brings excellent care to surgical patients in many ways, including: an innovative Vascular Access Program, a state-of-the-art Comprehensive Hernia Center, a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment of chronic wounds and a brand new outpatient facility. The department is at the forefront of adopting technology and procedures for the betterment of patient care.  The North Shore-LIJ Esophageal Center was created to provide a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to esophageal disorders and problems, combining Thoracic Surgery with Surgical Oncology and Minimal Invasive Surgery.
