Hofstra University and the North Shore-LIJ Health are pleased to announce a unique and historic agreement to establish a new medical school on Hofstra's campus in Hempstead, New York. The School of Medicine is expected to address the needs of 21st century healthcare in new and innovative ways.

Once established, the Hofstra University School of Medicine in partnership with North Shore-LIJ Health System will join the eight schools and colleges of Hofstra University. The Hofstra University School of Medicine will be the first allopathic (MD) medical school in Nassau County - and the first on Long Island in more than 35 years. Plans to create the new school were announced in October 2007. Hofstra University School of Medicine in partnership with North Shore-LIJ Health System, which hopes to admit its first class in 2011, is currently pursuing preliminary accreditation with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and requisite New York State approval. The School of Medicine seeks forward thinking candidates for the following senior level positions:

Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs: This person will be responsible for all faculty affairs, institutional policies and procedures, faculty appointment, promotion and tenure, faculty development, institutional affiliations and university relations. He/she will function as the senior member of the dean's office. Experience in medical school administration, LCME accreditation, faculty policies and procedures and curricula management is important. This is a senior level, MD faculty position.

Associate Dean of Student Affairs: This person will be the key dean's office liaison with the student body and will be responsible for admissions, all programs related to student life, orientation, counseling, career advisement, professional development, student professional assessment, student promotions and academic remediation. This person must like working with students, be an outstanding communicator, and willing to set high standards. MD preferred.

Chairman - Department of Basic Science Education: This person will serve as Chair of the department responsible for the organization, design and delivery of the non-clinical core science curriculum of the medical school. This person must be an MD or PhD with significant teaching and leadership experience in the basic sciences as well as curricular design. Research experience preferred. This person will recruit subject area specific basic sciences faculty and be a senior member of the curricular planning process. Must be eager to participate in innovative, non-traditional curricular design. Should be eligible for appointment at the level of full professor.
