September 14, 2017 (Thurs):   One Woman Show:  I Found that the Sun will Rise Tomorrow
Dramatic Autobiographical Performance by Author/Actress, Anna Snapp, who suffers from debilitating physical ailments, trauma and bipolar disorder. Expert Panel Discussion to follow.  Presented in conjunction with the Department of Psychiatry at Northwell Health LIJ Teaching Center (Rooms T1-3), LIJ Medical Center 5:30pm, Reception, 6:00-7:30pm, Performance/Panel  

October 26, 2017 (Thurs):  Reclaiming Life After Mastectomy
Sculpture Exhibit & Dramatic Monologues, Featuring Ron Israeli, M.D., sculptor and plastic surgeon specializing in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Dramatic Monologues to be performed by breast cancer patients who underwent breast reconstruction. Panel Discussion to follow SOMDeMatteis Family Atrium, Gallery & Room W134, SOM

November 7, 2017 (Tues): Attaining Cultural Competency in Transgender Care Guided Tour of Art Exhibit, Converging Voices:  Gender and Identity, at the Emily Lowe Gallery at Hofstra University, followed by a lecture/discussion and Q&A on cultural competency and emerging medical issues in LBGTQ+ Health Issues, led by Dr, David Rosenthal, Director of Northwell's Center for Transgender Care.  6:00p.m., Emily Lowe Gallery Art Tour, followed by 6:30 p.m. discussion at the Axinn Library Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater (base of Axinn Library)

Program on Angelman Syndrome v. Prader Willi Disease, Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, W134, Meet the Patient & Panel Discussion 6p.m.-8p.m.

November 29 (Wednesday):  Beyond the Diagnosis, Part II, Art Exhbit, Reception & Program on Lysosomal Storage Disorder Conditions, Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, Goldman Conference Center, 5:00-7:00 p.m. 
Focus on Tay Sachs, Gaucher, GM-1, Pompe, and Fabry diseases, Dr. Martin Bialer and Sharon Chen, Genetic Counselor. Moderators.  Meet Patients and Families with these disorders. 

January/February 2018  Healer's Art Course
This course offers a safe learning environment for a personal in-depth exploration of the time-honored values of service, healing relationship, reverence for life and compassionate care. This course is offered to up to 30 MS1 students on a volunteer basis (first come/first serve) at the SOM (Rooms TBD) A Certificate is awarded upon completion.  The program is offered 5:00p.m-8p.m. on each of the following dates (attendance on all five dates is mandatory): 1/8/18        1/22/18     1/29/18   2/5/18     2/12/18   Alt: 2/26/18 (in case of snow cancellation)

Healer's Art Informational Meeting will take place for all MS1 Students on Tuesday, November 7th 2017, from 1p.m.-2p.m. in Rooms W104-106 (SOM), Lunch will be served

January 24, 2017 (Wed)  A Dance in Medicine Event.  Join us from 12:00-1:00 pm. In the DeMatteis Family Atrium (outside W134) for a demonstration/class of Dance for Parkinson's Disease which is run by the Mark Morris Dance Group.  Discover the role that movement and dance can play in the lives with people with this disease. 

February 22, 2018  (Thurs)  Prescription Drug Abuse, A Medicine in Theater Event
Join us for Dramatic Read of Long Day's Journey Into the Night, followed by bioethics panel discussion moderated by Dr. Sam Packer

March, 2018: Movement/Dance in Medicine:  Series of Movement Segments

April 27, 2018 (Fri)A Music in Medicine Event.   Join us for a musical concert featuring The Unforgettables, a chorus comprised of people with dementia and their caregivers.  Explore how music can transcend the memory loss of dementia.
