Department of Emergency Medicine

The mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine is to be the preeminent provider of quality healthcare in the Northeast, a sponsor of medical and educational excellence, a leader in medical research, and a focal point for the community’s healthcare needs. The Emergency Department at Northwell Health in Manhasset is a designated New York State Region Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, equipped and prepared to treat all levels of emergency cases, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The staff of the Emergency Department at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset care for more than 90,000 patients per year.

The department is staffed by a team of board-certified emergency physicians, resident physicians, registered nurses, technicians, and support staff, whom treat a widely diverse patient population consisting of trauma and high-acuity medical, surgical, pediatric, and gynecological conditions.

Our commitment to education and research is steadfast and ever-increasing.  Our residencies are expanding and providing state of the art education to a new generation of physicians and advanced care providers. Our fellowships in subspecialties like Toxicology, Ultrasound, International Care, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medical Services, Education, and Research, are growing in size and scope.  Our research now spans from the basic science laboratories at the Feinstein Institute of Medical Research into the Emergency Department and to the community. We are pioneering a new emphasis on critical care to take better care of the sickest of the sick. We are developing the most cutting edge therapies to restore life after cardiac arrest, evaluating better and safer pain control methods, and identifying novel molecular targets for the treatment of sepsis. It is our hope that these groundbreaking efforts will help us to provide more innovative treatment options for our patients in their times of need.
