Adam B. Stein, MD, is the Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for Northwell Health.

Dr. Stein is a 1983 summa cum laude graduate of Union College in Schenectady, New York. He completed his medical degree in 1987 at the New York University School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed a one-year Internship in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. His residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation took place at New York University School of Medicine-Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, and was successfully completed in 1991. He was awarded the Highest Overall Performance Award by the N.Y.U. faculty upon graduation. Dr. Stein has been board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation since 1992.

After residency, Dr. Stein became a faculty member at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in 1991; he remained at Mount Sinai until 2008. At Mount Sinai, Dr. Stein became board certified in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, directed the Spinal Cord Injury Unit and developed the department's program for ventilator dependent individuals, while developing a national reputation in the area of spinal cord injury medicine. He served as the Residency Program Director for the Residency Training Programs in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, respectively. He was active in the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he served as a member of the Admissions Committee, the Graduate Medical Education Committee and regularly served as a group leader in "The Art and Science of Medicine", Mount Sinai's preclinical first and second year courses. Dr. Stein began his chairmanship at Northwell Health in July, 2008. In this capacity, he oversees the delivery of rehabilitation services for Northwell Health in its many hospitals and outpatient therapy centers, as well as Northwell Health's residency training program in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Stein facilitates the education of medical students at the Zucker School of Medicine.
