About the School of Medicine

A Message from the Dean

Dear Students and Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to welcome our faculty, staff, and students to not only a new academic year, but also another decade in the life of the Zucker School of Medicine.

As our tenth class settles into their first year of medical school, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for your hard work and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic. These past few months have been a time of complex, unprecedented circumstances, and your contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary.

In a matter of mere weeks, we were able to take our curriculum from in-person to virtual, get support programs for students up and running, and continue all the administrative tasks that make our school function. Without your dedication to our students and our educational mission, this would not have been possible.

As we transition back to an in-person experience, which many of you spent countless hours working towards, I know that this state of new normalcy is another challenge that we, as a community, can successfully navigate. Together, we can overcome any obstacle.

Our students are fortunate to have a team of faculty and staff who are so devoted to educational excellence. Thank you for helping us to remain steadfast in our mission to inspire diverse, promising students to lead and transform medicine for the betterment of humanity—a calling, that on the heels of the movements for social justice and the dismantling of systemic racism is sweeping our country.  I hope that from this difficult time we can find the path to lead you to become the doctors we so desperately need to heal our patients and our country.

I am proud to be your dean, and I look forward to seeing how we can persevere together to continue facing what will undoubtedly be an exceptional chapter in our history.
