Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)

Established in 1995, the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) program offers an intensive one-year fellowship of leadership training with extensive coaching, networking, and mentoring opportunities aimed at expanding the national pool of qualified women candidates for leadership in academic medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy.

The ELAM program has been specially developed for senior women faculty at the associate or full professor level who demonstrate the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions at academic health centers within the next five years.

The Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) program is targeted to rising women at the associate professor or full professor level who are established experts in their domain. Candidates will have a track record of achievement in clinical program development (or other institutional-level activities that mark them as appropriate) and have aspirations to lead at the executive level in the next five years.

Each year medical school department chairs are asked to recommend one individual for ELAM and one for ELH. The Dean will review all submissions and ultimately nominate one person to apply to ELAM and one person to apply to ELH.
