A little about yourself: I was born in India and moved to NY when I was young. I decided I wanted to be in healthcare when I was in the sixth grade. I moved to LI, NY at the age of 13 and have been here since for college, med. school, residency, and now as a full-time faculty at ZSOM. I have been married to my husband, Mickey, for 19 years. We have two kids, a 13 yr old daughter and a 9 yr old son.
Fun Fact: My nickname is Vinny!
Boring Fact: My son said I’m boring when I refuse to go on roller coasters with him :(
Why you chose medicine/science/research:It took some self-discovery in high school to realize I liked medicine, specifically pediatrics. As I finished residency and started my chief year, I realized how much I also loved teaching! I have been lucky to have found a career that has balanced my love for taking care of children and educating the new generation of future physicians!
What do you like to do in your free/spare time: My happy place is a comfy couch, a plate of yummy food, and a good series to binge on! Otherwise, I am a self-proclaimed cruise expert when I’m planning a vacation, on one, or just returning from one. You guessed it! I was probably on a cruise.
Tips/Advice for med students: BE ENTHUSIASTIC! Enthusiasm will take you a long way! I can’t emphasize that enough!
