October 4, 2018, A Theater in Medicine Program
STAGES is a one-man autobiographical dramatic performance, by playwright, actor and comedian David Lee Nelson, a patient suffering from colorectal cancer. Performances at 1p.m and 6p.m. will take place at the School of Medicine (W134), and will be followed by Q&A with David Lee Nelson. See flier for more details.

Diagnosing Ovarian Cancer: Awareness, Signs and Symptoms
The Cassat String Quartet
The Cassatt String Quartet, which will perform classical and contemporary masterpieces, has appeared at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Barbican (London) and the Beijing Modern Music Festival. Following the music, an ovarian cancer patient will deliver a dramatic monologue, and physician experts will host a Q&A to discuss diagnosing and treating ovarian cancer. 6p.m.-8pm, Goldman International Conference Center at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. The Reimagined Brain
An art exhibit featuring the artwork of Elizabeth Jameson
Join us for an Art Exhibit featuring the artwork of Elizabeth Jameson. Hear from Ms. Jameson, a quadriplegic as a result of her progressive multiple sclerosis, about how she uses art to create provocative images addressing the imperfect brain, and learn from Dr. Joel Stern and Dr. Asaff Harel about the latest scientific knowledge and clinical treatments for patients with multiple sclerosis. Regeneration/When a Doctor Becomes a Patient
with Dr. Nancy Rappaport and Dr. David Elkowitz
The event will open with scenes from Regeneration, a daring piece of theater about mortality, written and performed by Dr. Nancy Rappaport, a pediatric psychiatrist and associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rappaport recounts her personal journey from doctor to patient, where she confronts her mortality with tenderness and humor. Flowers for Algernon
Performance and Bioethics Discussion on Informed Consent and Medical Research
The event will open with a performance, by Zucker School of Medicine’s Medicine in Theater Group, of Flowers for Algernon, a one-act play by David Rogers, based on the book by Daniel Keyes. The play will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A on the bioethical issues related to informed consent in medical research, particularly for vulnerable populations. This will take place during the Annual Retreat of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at The Inn in New Hyde Park, at 5:00p.m. Please see flier for more details.
