The Zucker School of Medicine, Hofstra University, and Northwell Health have set policies and procedures related to the following compliance requirements for medical students. Incoming medical students are required to complete a medical screening, as outlined by the Policy on Medical Screening and Required Immunizations.
- Authorization for Registration: Students must authorize course registration biannually (in October and April) through the myHofstra portal.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification: At a minimum, students must complete BLS certification requirements in August of the first year (as part of the CPR course curriculum) and in May of the second year (as part of the Transitions course curriculum). BLS certification expires after two years, so students who are off-track or off-cycle may have to complete BLS certification requirements outside of the CPR and Transitions courses.
- Annual Health Screening and Required Immunizations: Students must complete an initial medical screening and annual medical screenings thereafter, as outlined by the Policy on Medical Screening and Required Immunizations.
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training: Students must complete OSHA training annually, by October 1, through iLearn.
- Northwell Health Corporate Compliance Training: Students must complete Northwell Health corporate compliance training annually, through the myHofstra portal.
- NYS Mandatory Training Program Identification & Reporting of Child Abuse, Neglect and Maltreatment.: Students must complete this training by October 1 of their first year, through iLearn.
Failure to remain compliant with any of the requirements above may result in a registration hold on a student's account. A registration hold will impact a student's matriculation, future enrollment, rotation participation, and financial aid eligibility. Non-compliant students will not be permitted to attend curricular or clerkship responsibilities.
Full-Time Enrollment Requirement
Students are required to maintain full-time enrollment while fulfilling the medical doctorate degree requirements. Full-time enrollment is defined as a registered medical student who is in full compliance with the requirements listed above and attending course or clerkship responsibilities according to the Policy on Attendance. Students not meeting minimal enrollment requirements may be referred to the Student Advancement Committee. Minimal enrollment per term does not guarantee that a student is on track for fulfilling the degree requirements.
