Medical Scholars Pipeline Program

The mission of the Medical Scholars Pipeline Program (MSPP) at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is to provide an educational pathway for high school students from the five boroughs of New York City and Nassau County, New York to enter the healthcare professions.

The MSPP works collaboratively with the Gateway to Higher Education Program at City College to recruit and support students in their higher education goals and pursuit of health careers.

The MSPP Program is designed to provide exposure to the numerous career paths available in the healthcare industry while enhancing the skills that will set students up for success.

These skills include:

• College preparation workshops
• Leadership activities
• Public speaking sessions
• Mentoring opportunities with healthcare professionals at the Zucker School of Medicine and Northwell Health

Since the program’s inception in 2010:

• 288 students have enrolled in the program
• 139 students have completed the three-year program
• 18 former MSPP students are now enrolled in medical schools, including 5 at the Zucker School of Medicine
• 12 MSPP students have graduated from medical school and are now working in the medical field

This program serves high school students from select high schools in New York City and Long Island who are:

• Rising juniors
• Rising seniors
• Rising college freshmen

The MSPP Program is in its sixteenth year of existence.
